If you’re looking for an action-adventure comedy movie, Anaconda is the perfect choice.
Written by Tom Gormican, Kevin Etten, and Hans Bauer and directed by Tom Gormican, Anaconda follows a hilarious group of friends, played by Jack Black, Paul Rudd, Thandiwe Newton, and Steve Zahn, and their attempt to recreate the 1997 movie, Anaconda.
Childhood best friends Griff and Doug have always dreamt of recreating their all-time favorite movie from their youth, Anaconda. Currently struggling through a midlife crisis, they join with their friends and decide to go for it. Assembling the group, Griff and Doug head deep into the Amazon jungles to begin filming. However, the movie they’re trying to recreate may be the very thing that endangers them.
I’m going to start this off by saying Anaconda is one of those “it’s so bad it’s good” movies.
Anaconda was packed with fun, chaotic energy throughout the entire movie, which couldn’t have been achieved if it weren’t for the extraordinary cast members. Every actor/actress did an amazing job in thoroughly expressing the emotions of their characters and their role in the storyline.
The comedic duo of Jack Black and Paul Rudd was one of the key highlights of this entire movie.
The constant jokes and unserious moments were timed perfectly to give the audience a laugh and a chance to pull away from the more serious concepts of the movie. These humorous moments kept the movie light and left the audience smiling.
I also thought the storyline was great as well. The mix of adventure, danger, fear, and humor throughout the movie made it easy to enjoy.
However, throughout Anaconda, there are a few moments when the CGI is intentionally over-the-top. I don’t believe it ruined or messed with the storyline too much, but it instead contributed to the unhinged energy of this movie.
Overall, I believe Anaconda deserves a 4 out of 5 bones.
