At the beginning of the school year, Durand School District welcomed a new teacher, Steven Steiner. He is taking the place of Mr. Fabian as the social studies teacher and teaches a variety of classes for high school students.
“I like to read, I read two books at any given time. I play video games and I like roleplaying games that I can pause so that I am constantly available,” Steiner said.
While Steiner has many activities he enjoys, he tries to be available if something comes up that needs his attention.
“This will be my 8th year in education,” Steiner said.
Although he hasn’t been teaching for too long, Steiner is passionate about it and has high hopes for Durand.
“Some of Durand’s scores are lower than I like to see but I would like to see them improve and I think I have the appropriate skillset to help them,” Steiner said.
Steiner wants to help the students of Durand improve. He cares about their well being and wants to make sure they are successful.
“I like that he tries to give us time to discuss things in class and give feedback and he tries to include everyone,” Sophomore Leah Anderson said.
Steiner gives actual lectures in his classes and lets the students discuss the topic together. This teaching style allows the students to work together and share their ideas.
“I hated school and the reason why I didn’t like it was because I felt like the teachers didn’t care about me. I felt like a number that would graduate out at the appropriate time. I wanted to become someone that cared about their students and actually gave them information they could use in life,” Steiner said.
