On Tuesday, September 30th, the Ag classes took a field trip to the World Dairy Expo. According to the World Dairy Expo website, the World Dairy Expo is the top-ranking event for the dairy community to learn, share, create, and show their cows. It is held in Madison, Wisconsin at the Alliant Energy Center.
“The kids will see what dairy cow shows are all about, the industry, the technology, and all of the equipment,” Ag teacher Emily Backeberg said.
The World Dairy Expo teaches people outside the dairy industry about the care the animals need. Some kids don’t know a lot about the dairy industry, so it is important that we educate them.
“The expo continues to grow every year and they have a specific day for FFA to visit,” Backeberg said.
The World Dairy Expo is enormous but they still make the kids a priority. They set up fun activities for them and made sure they got plenty of time to explore. This year, the expo set up a passport challenge where students had to collect stamps from different booths, encouraged students to visit all of the booths.
“I liked seeing all the cows and the food and being able to learn more about dairy,” Junior Ava Potter said.
The field trip isn’t just educational, there are plenty of fun things to do. There are a multitude of fun games to play as students walk around and there is a variety of food.
“It was really interesting to see that the people who attend the World Dairy Expo to compete really care about their cows and are willing to spend a lot of money to keep them healthy and happy,” Potter said.
The event helped students realize just how much work goes into dairy farming and how expensive it is. The people there really care about their cows. The World Dairy Expo is a very educational event.
“We’re only an hour away from it and people from all over the world come to see the expo. The dairy industry is often minimized but it is important to see the technology and the amount of care the animals need,” Backeberg said.
